Ananya Krüger-Bose

Lead designer for mid-drive units on electric cargo bikes; responsible for the gearbox and housing.

• Designed the two-stage helical gearbox of the VT-90 mid-drive unit; it delivers 90 Nm and is 420 g lighter than the unit it replaced.
• Redesigned the magnesium motor housing as a two-piece die casting, cutting machining time per part from 14 minutes to 6.
• Built a bearing endurance test rig that runs eight samples at once, reducing a validation cycle from ten weeks to three.
• Reduced gearbox noise by 5 dB(A) through tooth-profile modification and a stiffer bearing seat.

Designed housings and gear trains for cordless power tools.

• Developed the IP65 glass-fibre-reinforced enclosure for a cordless angle grinder, in production since 2019 with over 600,000 units made.
• Ran tolerance-stack analyses for a planetary gear set that removed a selective-assembly step.
• Worked with the mould maker in Ningbo through three tool trials to first approved parts.

Rotation programme in hydraulics test and design.

• Automated the data capture on a pump test bench in LabVIEW.
